About Affordable Home Assistance
A surprise repair is stressful enough without wondering if you're being overcharged. We write independent, plain-English guides that help US homeowners understand quotes, pay a fair price and find legitimate help when money is tight.
What we do
We publish guides on getting and comparing contractor quotes, paying for repairs, deciding repair or replace and protecting yourself from scams. We also offer a repair-or-replace calculator, a list of repair assistance programs, the free Fair Quote Checklist and the Repair-Ready checklist. We send The Fair Price Letter to people who sign up for it, and we're preparing Quote Check, a paid written review of a contractor quote.
How we stay independent
- We're not a contractor, lender, insurer or government agency, and we don't do repairs.
- We don't sell leads, recommend specific contractors or accept referral fees or commissions.
- We don't run ads from contractors or lenders.
- We never sell or share your email address.
How we write
Guides draw on public sources such as state licensing boards, the FTC and federal program pages, and on the experience of people who have estimated and managed residential repairs. Prices vary a lot by region, so we explain how to judge a price rather than promising one.
